Being a wrestling fan since 1994, I have seen some amazing wrestling matches. Growing up, I’ve learned to appreciate more than just WWE, digging into WCW, ECW, ROH and international wrestling promotions.
Every day, I will share a match that I think are worth watching over and over again. These are elite matches of the highest order. These are matches worthy of being called Blair Lucas’ Match of The Day.
Words cannot even describe how amazing this match is. You have Dean Malenko, an insanely talented technical wrestler that truly lived up to his handle of “Man of 1, 000 Holds” and Eddie Guerrero who, in my book, stands next to Chris Benoit as the single greatest wrestler ever.
Take these two amazing wrestlers and add the stipulation of 2 out of 3 falls, I mean, how can you possibly go wrong?
ECW was known for its shock value and sheer brutality, but to have a wrestling clinic like this go on and have the ECW fans (who were known as some of the craziest fans in the world) to not only accept it, but love every second of it, shows how amazing Malenko and Guerrero were.
Dean Malenko and Eddie Guerrero feuded off and on for the ECW Television Title ever since Eddie won it.
By this time, Eddie and Dean, because they were both under contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling, they were not allowed to appear on ECW television after this match, due to WCW and NJPW having a cross promotion deal.
To give the ECW fans a proper send off, this match was given a 2 out of 3 falls stipulation to properly end their ECW feud.
Having the match end in a draw was a perfect idea, having each man get a fall each, showing them both to be equals on their way out.
