GuTTWrench PowerNews: A New WWE World Heavyweight Championship Feud Is Coming

wwe.com

Big Show may be celebrating his newly won WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but it seems as though WWE may have different plans for the title picture come 2013.

According to wrestlingnewssource.com,

F4Wonline.com is reporting that Randy Orton and Dolph Ziggler will dominate the WWE World Title picture in early 2013. Ziggler is still holding the Money In The Bank brief case which he is soon to cash in.

A WWE World Title rematch between current champion Big Show against Sheamus will take place at Survivor Series and their storyline will likely conclude as we head toward the end of the year.

Orton and Ziggler had a short feud earlier this year prior to Orton’s 60 day suspension.

Seth’s Opinion

This would be great for WWE fans everywhere since the WWE WHC hasn’t been exciting in a long time. Big Show is at the end of his career, while Sheamus was boring and bland. The audience is much more behind Orton and Ziggler. This may be wishful thinking, but I would love to see this feud with Ziggler as the face and Orton as the heel. That is not likely to happen, but one can hope. I think Ziggler is quietly becoming one of the most popular superstars in WWE and should be the next World Heavyweight Champion after the Sheamus-Big Show feud.

What do you think? Would you like to see Orton and Ziggler feud over the WWE World Heavyweight Championship? Who should be the face and who should be the heel?

  1. Round 1:

Dude, I’ll give you that babyface Sheamus doesn’t hold a candle to the “Celtic warrior”, and he’s gotten a little stale, but to say that he’s bland and in the same sentence put Orton over? Lunacy I tell you. Sheamus has done everything they’ve asked of him. Not an excuse, but this entire “year of the Punk” HAS to have taken some of his thunder. Now, speaking of thunder…Two years ago this time, Orton is the #2 guy (Jesus, that was Jeff Hardy’s spot 4 years ago. Wonder what ever happened to that guy ;) in between injections perhaps Randy should’ve had an eye over his (oft-injured) shoulder. Where is he on the card now? That 60 days came and went, and yeah, he got a great reaction when he returned and lifted up his arms (incredible gimmick btw. Can’t believe it hasn’t been done before), but did it really make any sort of difference to the product? I happen to like Alberto (some of the time), but man does this guy have the least intriguing feuds. I haven’t seen him in an actual interesting program with ANYONE since he debuted and put Rey out for a year (which I’m always for. Who doesn’t like a sure bet?). And come to think of it, it’s not like he was working Rey because he was hurt!! I remember a Show feud involving a hit and run. Show miraculously sprinted (yes) to the ring 2 weeks later….terrrrrrible! That last program with Sheamus didn’t do either of them any favors if you ask me.

Now that brings me to Orton. I feel like he’s so lost in the shuffle, that Del Rio is supposed to elevate him in this thing!! Now everybody’s opinions different, but this, week to week, TO ME, is the most boring program going (2nd only to Show/Sheamus. Ugghh is that bad. But at least there’s SOMETHING there. I feel like they have nothing for either of them but they pushed them so hard previously, that they need to justify the pushes. Don’t get me wrong. I think Orton is an incredible wrestler, truly gifted. I just think as a babyface, he’s got no character.

When he was on fire a few years ago and punted Vince and DDT’d Stephanie, that he was as hot a heel as Austin was in ’96 and that he (the powers that be) had the potential to really pop the business with a big babyface turn. HHH somehow found a way to derailed that train with one visit to Randy’s house and all his heat died. Now that I’m thinking about it, I felt even stronger about the fact that Punk was getting so hot after he first cut “that promo”, that the business was going to bring back viewers that had left. I thought there was soooo much $ to be made it wasn’t even funny. Good ol’ Paul somehow, someway, found a way to knock that off course as well. He really is “that damn good” :)

Now finally the point. Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Booker T. In more extreme cases, Test and Umaga. WWE sees when guys have issues. The wars are over. What does WWE lose if he isn’t there? You’d probably know this better than I would, but how bad to rating/sales decline during that 60 day? (Which I think was longer than that, because they kept him off before they decided to suspend him. To tell you the truth, I was too busy watching Punk, Ziggler and Bryan to even notice he was gone. Not a good sign.

I don’t need to tell you how good and how hard of a worker Ziggler is, he does that every week!. I’m been all for pushing him to the moon for the past 3-4 years. He’s not going anywhere. Best bumper since Hennig (praise doesn’t really come much higher from me). Name somebody else on that roster that makes guys look better. Nobody. Talent like that, is missed. No Orton? Oh well, he can go shoot himself full of whatever he wants to down in Orlando with the rest of the hall of famers that won’t be hall of famers. Perfect fit for him. He’d probably have an easier time connecting with an audience of 5,000 than 50,000, because something about him just doesn’t translate for me. Maybe I’m missing it, but I know I’m not alone in my line of thinking.

Enough chances. I wanna see Ziggler. I wanna see Danielson. I wanna see Cesarro (another who could use some “fan connecting” lessons, but I’ll give him the “new” guy pass (I saw Claudio at the manhattan center years back. Nothing actually “new” about him but you know what I mean. Orton’s been here since what? ’02? He’s gotten the ball to run with time after time, after time already and time and time again he fumbles it. I’ve had enough. Here’s a guy BORN to wrestle. Take Bryan Danielson (who I also got to see on that same ROH show). Too small, no charisma (we know Vince/whoever doesn’t watch ANY of these “mixtapes” guys send in. Took him 2 years before he realized, not only could Bryan talk, but he was pretty damn entertaining at it to boot. Fast forward. Daniel Bryan turns himself into one of the most over guys in the company. Not too much “opportunely” with the way his title “reign” was booked. Still got himself over. I had a feeling about who Punk was referring to in a promo a week or two ago about guys bitching about their “spot”. I think you helped me confirm my suspicion on that.

Man I just typed a lot lol. Anyways, I just don’t think the company could possibly put that much faith in a guy with his track record. And once again, I don’t think he’s as over as you claimed. I don’t even think its close between Sheamus and him at this juncture. Punk ain’t goin’ nowhere. Neither is Cena. Rock and Brock will be popping up before long. You wanna elevate Ziggler too? Awesome, I’m just not seeing the spot for Randy.

Sorry for taking up the whole page. I honestly didn’t even realize how long I’d been typing lol. I’m interested to hear your response if you’d do me the honors.

  2. Sorry, Round 2:

Wow that is nuts and you’re not going to believe me, but I swear on me, as soon as I read that Sheamus has been too bland and that the answer to that particular issue is “the viper”, I will outright admit to you that I abruptly stopped reading and immediately began writing that “novel” in which I rambled on through for possibly 15 minutes while on my toilet. When I got finished writing, actually before I even finished (and here comes the unbelievable part) I’m pitching this idea to myself. Trying to make it work in my head. I’m constantly playing devils advocate with myself anyway, looking at all possible angles.

Now, I’ve seen the subtle teases of the Vicky/Dolph split from time to time for well over a year now. I’ve said it many times before. Eventually she’ll cost him a match so important (briefcase maybe?), that the fans fucking lose it when he FINALLY turns, which they definitely will (fingers crossed that don’t pull the trigger too quickly on that however. As I said in “my first piece”, it sure wasn’t the best move for Randy’s career).

Randy Orton IS a heel. It’s in his DNA if one were to believe such things. It’ll be slightly more difficult to turn him, for as I’ll admit, his is without a doubt, over with a lot of fans. But given that they just rapidly turned Punk a heel as easily as Kurt Angle catching a DUI when he operates a moving vehicle? I have faith that it shouldn’t be too hard. Orton personifies (or at least did for a while) the modern day heel. If he toned his whole (annoying imo) “coolness” way, way down, we could be talking potential for all-time greats lists one day. I’m sure Randle can figure the whole “bad guy” schtick out (for the what, 4th time?). While he probably can’t do some of the heelish things from a few years back when he was at his hottest, I’ve seen the punt at least another 10 times since Vince. It loses it luster after a while. Noticed him use it lately? I sure as hell haven’t.

Is pro wrestling now really so PC that a kick to the head is over the line? I’m all for the boys safety and concussion prevention, but a worked kick is a worked kick and wrestling should be just that.

Nowww. Having processed all that, I came to the conclusion that the only way for this feud to peek my excitement in any way (besides Dolph bumping his ASS off. Which he does regardless of opponent [hint hint Randy]) is the double turn. All night I’ve been feeling pretty good about my solid, if someone predictable (note to WWE on that. Sometimes, simple works) booking, given what I had to work with.

I now return to put up my original post, and saw the “great minds…” theory at play. Therefor I owe you an apology. I can see it working.

    But I digress…….lmao
